Some of our previous students’ stories:

Ash Collins (2014-2016)

Studied: Psychology, English Literature & Drama and Theatre Studies
Upon leaving OAN Ash set about following a university pathway and then went into employment. Ash went to Sheffield Hallam University and then left after a year as he was unsure if he’d made the right decision or not subject wise. He is now studying at degree level with The Open University to get a degree that he feels suits him more. We are very proud of Ash as he is doing this alongside being deputy manager of a Wetherspoons pub!

Kira Barnett (2014-2016)

Studied: Drama & Theatre Studies, Biology and Psychology
Kira chose the university route after leaving OAN. After leaving 6th form Kira went on to study an undergraduate degree, BA (Hons) Contemporary Theatre and Performance at the University of Derby which led to her gaining full time employment at Derby Theatre at the end of her three year degree.
Kira is currently the Marketing Assistant at Derby Theatre, a role that she “loves” and has held for nearly two years since leaving university. Kira found her current career through completing voluntary work experience with the Marketing Team at Derby Theatre which led her to discovering a passion for the field. Her roles include; leading on marketing campaigns for both received and produced shows, managing the theatre’s social media accounts, mentoring university students on work experience and handling customer enquiries and collating show data on Box Office. Kira explains she “was attracted to the role as each day is different. Derby Theatre is a learning theatre which means there are many different strands to the role and this suits (her) personality as (she) loves to keep busy doing different tasks, (she’s) definitely never bored!”

Curtis Ledward (2016-2018)

Studied: Business, Sport, English Language
Curtis chose the employment route when leaving OAN and took some time to ensure he knew what he wanted to do and gained experience in a variety of fields. Curtis now works at Vision Express in customer service. He really enjoys getting to know people on a consistent basis.  Curtis explains: “It doesn’t sound that major but in a way, I get to help people change the way they look so they can feel better about themselves.”
